Speaking at the event, Minister To Lam expressed his delight at the positive development of the relationship between Vietnam and the European Union (EU) over the past years, especially in trade and investment. The Minister also spoke highly of the role of the EU, EP and Mr. Bernd Lange in facilitating the signing of the EU - Vietnam Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA) and the EU - Vietnam Investment Protection Agreement (IPA) in late June 2019.
The host informed the guest that the Vietnamese National Assembly is planning to approve the deal in the first half of 2020. When it is approved, the EVFTA will open up a new period of the bilateral economic cooperation between Vietnam and EU. Minister To Lam wished that Mr. Bernd Lange and members of the committee would support and urge the EP to soon pass the two agreements.
According to Minister To Lam, the ties and cooperation between the Vietnamese Ministry of Public Security and relevant agencies of EU member states have developed and reaped important achievements in the fight against trans-national crime over the past years. The Minister affirmed that the Vietnamese Ministry of Public Security will continue working closely with the EU and EP in crime prevention and control, and cyber security protection.
For his part, Mr Bernd Lange expressed his gratitude to Minister To Lam for the warm welcome and affirmed that the EP in general and the Committee on International Trade in particular will continue expanding collaboration with the Vietnamese Ministry of Public Security in fields of shared concern.
