Vietnamese Ministry of Public Security and Qatar Ministry of Interior expand cooperation

MPS - General To Lam, Member of the Politburo and Minister of the Public Security, who is leading a high-ranking delegation of the Vietnamese Ministry of Public Security to visit Qatar at the invitation of the Qatar Ministry of Interior and other law enforcement agencies, on December 11 met with Qatar Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sheikh Abdullah Bin Nasser Bin Khalifa Al Thani and Major General Saad Bin Jassim Al-Khulaifi, Qatar Deputy Minister of Interior.

The events saw the presence of Mr. Nguyen Dinh Thao, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam to Qatar.

* At the meeting with Mr. Sheikh Abdullah Bin Nasser Bin Khalifa Al Thani, the host welcomed Minister To Lam and his entourage to Qatar, and spoke highly of the results of the bilateral cooperation between Qatar law enforcement agencies and the Vietnamese Ministry of Public Security over the past time. He hoped that the two sides could expand the cooperation to other potential areas.

Minister To Lam extended the greetings and wishes of Mr. Nguyen Xuan Phuc, Prime Minister of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, to the Qatar Prime Minister and other leaders of the Qatar Government.

The guest hoped that the Qatar Prime Minister would continue supporting and facilitating the bilateral cooperation between the Vietnamese Ministry of Public Security and the Qatar Ministry of Interior and other State agencies, especially in ensuring national security, social order and safety for peace, stability and legitimate interests of the two peoples. The Vietnamese Minister also wished to receive the Qatar Prime Minister in the coming time.

Overview of the meeting.

 

On this occasion, the two sides signed a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation in crime prevention and fight between the Ministry of Public Security of Vietnam and the Ministry of Interior of Qatar. The two sides also agreed to continue negotiations to sign other agreements on extradition and transfer of imprisoned persons in order to create a legal framework to combat crimes involving citizens of the two countries.

* Earlier on the same day, Minister To Lam and the Vietnamese high-ranking delegation met with Major General Saad Bin Jassim Al-Khulaifi at the headquarters of the Qatar Ministry of Interior.

At the meeting, the two sides agreed to enhance their traditional friendship and multifaceted cooperation in the fields of security protection, police work, law enforcement and criminal justice, contributing to ensuring national security, social order and safety of each country, and protecting legitimate rights and interests of citizens of one country living in the other.

They also agreed to effectively implement the 2014 Agreement on cooperation in preventing and combating transnational crimes between the Vietnamese Ministry of Public Security and the Qatar Ministry of Interior.

Regarding the crime prevention and fighting, the two sides vowed to enhance exchange of experience in law enforcement and sharing of criminal information, promote joint investigation of wanted criminals. The two sides also saw the need to further cooperate in combating transnational crimes and newly-emerging crimes, especially terrorism, hi-tech crime, international economic crime, money laundering, human trafficking, illegal immigration, e-commercial frauds, while enhancing cooperation in public security industry and personnel training.

On this occasion, Minister To Lam invited Major General Saad Bin Jassim Al-Khulaifi and his spouse to pay an official visit to Vietnam.

At the meeting, Minister To Lam and Mr. Saad Bin Jassim Al-Khulaifi signed a Memorandum of Understanding on the implementation of the 2014 Agreement in preventing and combating crimes between the two ministries.
