Can Tho city police urged to prevent crimes

MPS - The Can ThoMunicipal Police Department on January 8 held a conference to review its task performance in 2019 and roll out its working plan for 2020.

Major General Nguyen Duy Ngoc, Deputy Minister of Public Security, attended and delivered a keynote speech at the conference.

The event also saw the presence of Mr. Tran Quoc Trung, Member of the Party Central Committee, Secretary of the Can Tho Municipal Party Committee, and Mr. Dao Anh Dung, Standing Vice Chairman of the Can Tho Municipal People's Committee.

Under the authority of the Prime Minister, Deputy Minister Nguyen Duy Ngoc presents a Certificate of Merit from the Prime Minister to Major General Nguyen Van Thuan, Director of the Can Tho Municipal Police Department.


In 2019, Can Tho city’s police actively advised the local Party committees and authorities to promulgate numerous legal documents on security and order issues while taking effective preventive measures and plans to absolutely protect important premises, projects and political events organized in the city.

The rate of criminal cases in 2019 was decreased by 14.8% compared to that in 2018 while the rate of successfully investigated cases reached 87.6%.

Under the authority of the State President, Mr. Tran Quoc Trung presents the First-class Feat Order to Major General Nguyen Van Thuan.


Particularly, the local police forces solved 96.2% (50/52) of the serious and extremely serious criminal cases. Can Tho city’s police also attached great importance to other aspects of police work, including promoting the movement “All people protect national security”, enhancing Party and force building, and tightening discipline observance among local police officers and soldiers.

Speaking at the conference, Deputy Minister Nguyen Duy Ngoc recognized and praised the achievements gained by the Can Tho police forces in 2019.

Deputy Minister Nguyen Duy Ngoc requested the Can Tho Municipal Police Department to better advise the local Party Committees and authorities on public order and security issues and mobilize local people to participate in national security and social order protection as well as in prevention and fight against crimes, especially organized crime, “black credit” and illegal debt collection, while promptly solving newly emerging and pressing security issues in key areas and hotspots.

In the coming time, the Can Tho city police should effectively launch intensive campaigns against crimes to ensure security and order during the upcoming Lunar New Year holiday as well as take effective measures to protect Party congresses at all local levels.
