Criminal police force urged to improve main role in combating crimes

MPS - The Criminal Police Department under the Ministry of Public Security on January 8 held a conference to review the force’s task performance in 2018 and roll out missions for 2019 with the presence of Senior Lieutenant General Le Quy Vuong, Deputy Minister of Public Security.

Speaking at the event, on behalf of the Public Security Central Party Committee and leaders of the Ministry of Public Security, Deputy Minister Le Quy Vuong hailed the achievements in the fight against criminals of the Criminal Police Department as well as local criminal police units nationwide.

Reports at the event also revealed that, in 2018, the criminal police force nationwide solved 61,733 cases and arrested 94,714 suspects. The Department of Criminal Police alone investigated 43,826 criminal cases, arrested 87,769 suspects, as well as eradicated 2,721 gangs and criminal groups; successfully solved most of the serious criminal cases related to murders, organized crimes and “black credit”, arrested involved suspects, eradicated a number of “hot spots” of criminal activities. Thanks to the great effort of the criminal police force, the number of criminal offences reduced by 0.61% compared with the previous year while the rate of successfully investigated cases reached 82.32%.

Deputy Minister Le Quy Vuong urged the criminal police force to effectively implement all plans and measures to combat crimes and ensure security and order before, during and after the upcoming Lunar New Year. Deputy Minister Le Quy Vuong asked the force to strive to reduce the crime rate by 3 percent, 4 cases per day or 1,500 cases in 2019, creating a foundation to cut down 5 percent of the criminal cases in 2020. Deputy Minister Le Quy Vuong urged the force to improve its main role in combating crimes and suppressing crimes, ensuring social safety and order.

Deputy Minister Le Quy Vuong also urged the criminal police force to strengthen international cooperation in mutual legal assistance to prevent crimes from the borderline, to coordinate in arresting and transferring criminals, and to learn its international peers’ experience in preventing and fighting crime.

At the closing ceremony, 43 teams and 185 individuals with outstanding achievements were honored with Certificates of Merits of various kinds. The Department received the Emulation Flag from the Ministry of Public Security for its achievements in the “For National Security” movement in 2018.
