MPS asked to take drastic actions against drunk drivers amid rise in alcohol-related traffic accidents

May, 13 2019
MPS - Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc has requested the Ministry of Public Security (MPS) to direct all police units, particularly the traffic police force, to promote patrols and handling of violations of traffic order and safety regulations, particularly cases related to drivers’ use of drugs and alcohol.

In recent years, the road traffic situation has become more complicated, with various traffic accidents caused by drunken drivers. Particularly, all recent three traffic accidents in Binh Dinh and Hanoi in April, which killed and wounded many people, causing public anger, were caused by drunken drivers.

To timely prevent and reduce traffic accidents due to drivers’ violations of blood alcohol concentration and restore traffic order and safety, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc asked the MPS to direct police units nationwide, particularly the traffic police force, to strengthen patrols and checks on roads to minimize risks for traffic safety, especially acts violating regulations on drugs and blood alcohol concentration of drivers.

The traffic police units should launch intensive campaigns to take serious actions against alcohol concentration violations during long vacations, festivals and tourist destinations; strictly handle acts against on-duty officers; fully equip officers in charge of patrol and check on roads; proactively coordinate with the press and media to disseminate laws and mobilize people to seriously abide by the traffic legal provisions contributing to ensuring traffic order and safety.
