NA delegation checks ministries’ implementation of legal regulations on fire prevention and fighting

MPS - An inspection team of the National Assembly (NA) on February 25 worked with the Ministry of Public Security (MPS), Ministry of National Defence, Ministry of Industry and Trade, and Ministry of Construction to review the implementation of policies and legal regulations on fire prevention and fighting in 2014-2018. NA Vice Chairman, head of the inspection team, Do Ba Ty, chaired the meeting.

An overview of the meeting.

According to a report delivered by Deputy Minister of Public Security Le Quy Vuong, the MPS recommended the Government to issue 3 relevant Decrees, and coordinated with related ministries and branches to draft and issue 21 circulars to perfect the legal framework of fire prevention and fighting.

The MPS also seriously examined and approved various designs and plans on fire prevention and fighting, carried out 1.5 million checks of fire prevention and fighting, fined 98,000 violations, suspended thousands of business facilities or construction projects, investigated 66 cases and prosecuted 43 people. With the serious checks and strict penalties, shortcomings and weaknesses in fire prevention and fighting have been identified and fixed contributing to controlling fire and explosion incidents.

The fire police force directly extinguished 12,000 fire incidents, saving hundreds of billions of VND, and guided thousands of people to escape from fire incidents. The effort and sacrifice of the fire police has been highly appreciated by the people.

Regarding the organizational apparatus of the fire police force, fire police units will be established in districts in order to respond quickly to fire and explosion incidents.

Representatives of the other ministries also reported on their implementation of the policies and legal regulations on fire prevention and fighting.

More inspections will be carried out by 3 different teams to examine fire prevention work at the Ministries of Public Security; Industry and Trade; Construction; Information and Communications; Transport; Culture, Sports and Tourism; Agriculture and Rural Development; Planning and Investment; Science and Technology; Education and Training; as well as public places and large property development companies.
