Legal Precedents & Criminal Record:

- In 2007: Sentenced by the Ha Noi Municipal People’s Court to 4 years’ imprisonment and 4 years’ probation for “conducting propaganda against the State of the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam” under Article 88 of the 1999 Penal Code.

- In 2018: Sentenced by the Ha Noi Municipal People’s Court to 15 years’ imprisonment and 5 years’ probation for “carrying out activities aimed at overthrowing the people’s administration” under Article 109 of the Penal Code. The execution of his sentence was subsequently suspended, after which he departed for Germany.

- On December 5, 2025: The Security Investigation Agency of the Ministry of Public Security issued a wanted notice for Nguyen Van Dai for “making, storing, spreading or disseminating information, documents, and items against the State of the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam” under Article 117 of the Penal Code.

- On December 31, 2025: Tried in absentia by the Ha Noi Municipal People’s Court and sentenced to 17 years’ imprisonment and 5 years’ probation for “making, storing, spreading or disseminating information, documents, and items against the State of the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam” under Article 117 of the Penal Code.
