The event was initiated by Nhan Dan Newspaper and the Ministry of Public Security in 2025, with the Ministry of National Defence and the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union Central Committee joining the program this year.
Attending the program were Politburo Member, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defence General Phan Van Giang and Politburo Member and Minister of Public Security General Luong Tam Quang.
The event also drew members of the CPV Central Committee; leaders and representatives of central and local Party commissions, ministries, sectors, agencies and units; international friends; residents; and officers and enlistees across the country’s 34 provinces and cities and their communes, wards and special zones.
Delivering the opening remarks, Member of the CPV Central Committee, Editor-in-Chief of Nhan Dan Newspaper, Deputy Head of the Commission for Publicity of CPVCC and Chairman of the Viet Nam Journalists Association Le Quoc Minh highlighted the significance of the program entering its second year.
He expressed his hope that, following the event, each participant would adopt a new habit: walking a little more, using a little less plastic and keeping the road outside their home a little cleaner.
Speaking at the program, Deputy Minister of Public Security Senior Lieutenant General Le Van Tuyen affirmed that “Walking Forward with Viet Nam” 2026 was not merely a community physical activity but also a collective action of profound political and social significance.
The event demonstrated the determination of the entire nation to overcome difficulties together, improve public health, strengthen solidarity, pursue sustainable development and advance international integration in the new era.
The 2026 event marked a practical starting point in the journey toward building a healthy living environment, improving people’s physical and mental well-being, and developing an orderly, law-abiding, secure and safe society.
It also contributed to strengthening the “All People Protecting National Security” Movement and symbolized the strength of national solidarity and the close bonds between the armed forces and the people.
Addressing the program, on behalf of the Party and State leadership, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defence General Phan Van Giang recognized and commended the Ministry of Public Security, Nhan Dan Newspaper, the Ministry of National Defence, the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union, relevant ministries, sectors, local authorities and businesses for accompanying officers, enlistees and people nationwide in actively participating in the event, thereby enhancing its profound significance and far-reaching impact.
Deputy Prime Minister Phan Van Giang called on Party committees and authorities from the central to grassroots levels to continue thoroughly grasping the principle that protecting public health and improving people’s quality of life constitute a consistent objective, requesting that these efforts be closely associated with the campaign encouraging all people to exercise in accordance with the example of great President Ho Chi Minh.
Building on the first season’s goal of “One billion steps into the new era,” “Walking Forward with Viet Nam” 2026 expanded the target into a journey of “10 billion green steps for a sustainable Viet Nam.”
The program recorded 1,774,268 participants and 10,068,000,515 steps through walking events held in 34 provinces and cities and nearly 3,000 communes, wards and special administrative zones.
From the digital platform to walking venues nationwide, every number represented part of a shared journey and demonstrated the broad appeal of an activity rooted in the simplest of actions: everyone taking one more step together.
