Member of the Party Central Committee and Deputy Minister of Public Security Senior Lieutenant General Le Van Tuyen chaired the event. Also in attendance was Chargé d'Affaires of the Venezuelan Embassy in Vietnam Estela del Valle Quijada Suarez.
The earthquake has left catastrophic consequences in Venezuela. According to updates as of June 28, the disaster has claimed more than 1,400 lives, left over 50,000 people missing, and destroyed tens of thousands of homes.
In response to these tremendous losses and acting on directives from the Party, State and Government leaders, the MPS decided to dispatch a specialized task force to Venezuela to assist in locating victims, conducting rescue operations, and mitigating the aftermath of the natural disaster.
Addressing the ceremony, Deputy Minister Le Van Tuyen extended his deepest condolences to the Government and people of Venezuela as well as to the families of the victims. He emphasized that Vietnam's timely deployment of forces to the disaster-stricken area not only aims to aid those in distress but also reflects international solidarity, humanitarian responsibility, and the traditional friendly ties between Vietnam and Venezuela.
The MPS task-force team comprises highly skilled police officers and soldiers experienced in urban search and rescue (structural collapses), emergency medical services, communications, technical logistics and rescue command. Specialized vehicles, detection equipment, medical supplies and essential logistics have been fully prepared, allowing the team to commence operations immediately upon arrival at the scene.
Deputy Minister Le Van Tuyen urged all team members to maintain strong resolve, uphold unity, strictly observe discipline, and proactively coordinate with local authorities. He reminded them that, while each member has a specific tactical duty, they also carry the image of Vietnam, a compassionate, responsible nation always ready to stand side by side with international friends in times of need.
Expressing her deep emotion at the ceremony, Ms. Estela del Valle Quijada Suarez heartfeltly thanked the Party, State, Government and Ministry of Public Security of Vietnam for their prompt assistance. She noted that the presence of Vietnamese rescue forces during such a painful time for her country goes far beyond the provision of personnel and equipment; it stands as a symbol of friendship, empathy and the close bond between the two peoples.
Ms. Suarez expressed absolute confidence that with their experience, high sense of responsibility and courage, the Vietnamese task-force team would help the earthquake victims navigate their darkest days. She wished the officers and soldiers good health, a safe mission, and a successful return home after fulfilling their duties.
As an immediate response, the MPS is scheduled to transport more than 20 tons of relief supplies to Venezuela, including essential goods and medical provisions.
