MPS seeks to expand cooperation with Singaporean Ministry of Digital Development and Information

Minister of Public Security General Luong Tam Quang hosted talks with Singaporean Minister for Digital Development and Information Josephine Teo, on the afternoon of January 15 in Hanoi.

The talks were held on the occasion of Minister Josephine Teo’s visit to Hanoi to attend the ASEAN Digital Ministers’ Meeting.

At the meeting, Minister Luong Tam Quang noted that, in recent years, the friendly and cooperative relationship between Vietnam and Singapore has continued to deepen in a substantive and effective manner across multiple fields, including energy transition, sustainable development, innovation and digital transformation.

The Minister highly appreciated Singapore’s strategic vision and practical achievements in digital transformation, as well as its strong commitment to promoting bilateral cooperation in developing the digital economy and building a safe, secure and trustworthy digital environment.

To further advance cooperation between the Vietnamese Ministry of Public Security and Singapore’s Ministry of Digital Development and Information, Minister Luong Tam Quang proposed that the two sides effectively implement commitments reached by the leaders of both countries during General Secretary To Lam’s visit to Singapore in March 2025, together with the Action Program on the implementation of the Vietnam–Singapore Comprehensive Strategic Partnership for the 2025–2030 period.

He also suggested that Singapore consider joining the United Nations Convention on Cybercrime, noting that Vietnam has been entrusted by the United Nations to establish a UN Cybercrime Prevention Center in Vietnam, calling on Singapore to actively support and assist Vietnam in developing the center.

In addition, Minister Luong Tam Quang proposed enhancing cooperation through exchanges of expert-level delegations to share experience in digital transformation application, personal data protection and data security, prevention of cyberattacks, protection of critical information systems and management of cross-border data flows.

He underscored the importance of building capacity for specialized forces in digital transformation, cybersecurity and personal data protection, as well as exchanging experience in developing legal frameworks on data protection and storage.

The Minister also highlighted the need to improve mechanisms for mutual recognition of electronic identification and to establish controlled frameworks for cross-border data sharing.

Sharing the same , Minister Josephine Teo affirmed that Singapore would closely coordinate with the Vietnamese Ministry of Public Security to promote the effective implementation of bilateral legal frameworks on cybersecurity and digital transformation. 

She emphasized that such cooperation would further deepen the Vietnam–Singapore Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in a practical and results-oriented manner, contributing to the interests of both peoples and to peace, stability and development in the region and beyond.
