Vietnam, Australia enhance strategic cooperation in security and critical technologies

Minister of Public Security General Luong Tam Quang hosted a meeting with Australian Minister for Foreign Affairs Penny Wong on the afternoon of August 20, in Hanoi.

At the meeting, Minister Luong Tam Quang and Minister Penny Wong affirmed that Vietnam–Australia relations are now at their best stage of development.

Overview of the meeting.

Since the elevation of bilateral ties to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in March 2024, cooperation between the two countries in politics, diplomacy, economy, trade, education and training has been continuously expanded, bringing tangible benefits to the two nations.

In the fields of security and law enforcement, the two sides elevated the security dialogue to the ministerial level in October 2024 in Australia.

On this basis, the Ministry of Public Security of Vietnam and Australian law enforcement agencies have stepped up delegation exchanges at all levels, actively shared information and jointly assessed strategic issues concerning both countries’ security and interests, while strenthening collaboration in crime prevention and control.

On this occasion, Minister Luong Tam Quang and Minister Penny Wong signed a Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation in Cyber and Critical Technology Issues, creating an important framework for expanding cybersecurity collaboration, building capacity of cybersecurity personnel and strengthening joint efforts to combat cybercrime.
