Vietnam, Romania strengthen security cooperation

At the headquarters of the Romanian Ministry of Internal Affairs, Deputy Minister Le Quoc Hung met with the host country’s Secretary of State of the Ministry of Internal Affairs Bogdan Despescu.

During the meeting, the two sides highly appreciated the traditional friendship between Vietnam and Romania, as well as the growing cooperative relationship between the Vietnamese Ministry of Public Security and the Romanian Ministry of Internal Affairs.

Both sides acknowledged the positive and substantive results of high-level and working-level exchanges, contributing to strengthening cooperation between them, particularly in criminal prevention and investigation through police cooperation channels such as INTERPOL.

In addition, the two ministries have mutually supported each other at multilateral and international forums in which both countries participate.

To further strengthen law enforcement cooperation, the two sides agreed to early complete the legal framework by expediting negotiations and signing an Agreement on Cooperation in Combating Terrorism, Organized Crime and Other Crimes, as well as Agreements on Extradition and Transfer of Sentenced Persons.

The two sides also agreed to promote delegation exchanges at all levels, share experience and enhance capacity-building programs for their law enforcement officers on key areas of mutual interest such as aviation security, personal data protection and digital forensics.

* Following the meeting with the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Deputy Minister Le Quoc Hung had talks with Inspector General of the Romanian National Police Benone Matei to discuss deeper cooperation in combating crimes involving citizens of the two countries.

Both sides highly valued the practical efficiency of police cooperation over recent years, and reaffirmed the need to further enhance timely information exchange on internationally wanted fugitives via the INTERPOL channel and through each country’s Embassy.

The two sides agreed to expand cooperation in combating cybercrime, ensuring cybersecurity and preventing crimes related to illegal migration and drug trafficking. 

The head delegates also reached consensus on organizing the first round of negotiations on the Agreement on Cooperation in Combating Terrorism, Organized Crime and Other Crimes in early 2026 in Vietnam.

Both sides also affirmed their commitment to strengthening coordination to ensure the safety and security of Vietnamese and Romanian citizens living, working, studying and traveling legally in each other’s territory.

Within the framework of the working visit, Deputy Minister Le Quoc Hung also met with Senator Ninel Peia, Chief of Staff of the Romanian Senate and several Senate officials.

Senator Ninel Peia expressed Romania’s desire to welcome more high-level delegations from the Party and State of Vietnam, as well as leading Vietnamese enterprises to the country to explore investment opportunities, thereby promoting cooperation in economics and trade as well as other potential areas between the two countries.
