The workshop brought together representatives from the British Embassy in Vietnam, IOM Vietnam, as well as functional units of the Ministry of Public Security and relevant ministries, sectors and localities.
In his opening remarks, Deputy Director of the Department of Foreign Relations Senior Colonel Nguyen Hoa Chi emphasized that human trafficking remains a complex crime with increasingly sophisticated methods and tactics, requiring stronger coordination among domestic forces as well as enhanced international cooperation.
He noted that, in recent years, the Department of Foreign Relations has worked closely with IOM Vietnam to organize capacity-building activities for local law enforcement agencies, contributing to improving the capacity for data collection, statistical analysis and coordination of investigation, prosecution and adjudication bodies in handling human trafficking cases.
At the workshop, delegates comprehensively discussed the implementation of the program for the 2025–2026 period, pointed out challenges in combating human trafficking, and proposed solutions to enhance border control, international cooperation as well as victim identification, verification and support.
Delegates also shared good models of supporting groups of population at risk of being trafficked, and sought approaches to mobilize local-level efforts in provinces such as Nghe An, Quang Ninh and Quang Tri to join the campaign against trafficking in persons. They also proposed recommendations to improve the efficiency of combating this kind of crime in the current context.
Senior Colonel Nguyen Hoa Chi affirmed that the program has contributed to strengthening the capacity of functional forces, enhancing inter-sectoral coordination and promoting international cooperation, thereby supporting the implementation of the National Action Program against human trafficking.
