MPS - Chief of the Permanent Office for UN Peacekeeping of the Ministry of Public Security of Vietnam Major General Dao Xuan Lan led a Vietnamese police delegation to visit and work with the UN Department of Peace Operations in New York, on March 27, 2023.

Within the framework of the visit, the Vietnamese delegation met and worked with functional offices of the UN Peace Operations Department. 

UN officials working with the visiting Vietnamese delegations included Police Advisor and Director of the UN Police Department Major General Faisal Shahkar, Head of Integrated Training Service (ITS) Division of the Office of Policy, Evaluation and Training (DPET) Colonel Nyamijargal Nergui, and Head of the Police Recruitment Division under the UN Police Office Ata Yenigu.

During the meetings with UN officials, Major General Dao Xuan Lan said that the Ministry of Public Security's Office For UN Peacekeeping wishes to expandties and cooperation between leaders of the Ministry of Public Security of Vietnam and leaders of the United Nations in charge of peacekeeping as well as between leaders of functional agencies under the Ministry of Public Security and the UN Department of Peace Operations (DPO) and specialized UN agencies, the UN representative in Vietnam.

Meanwhile, the office also set upbilateral cooperation channels with foreign partners, such as the US, Italy, Australia, Turkey, China, Korea, India, Thailand, Indonesia and so on to support the Vietnamese Ministry of Public Security in training Vietnamese police officers to be deployed to UN peacekeeping operations. 

In 2022, the Ministry of Public Security of Vietnam sent 36 police officers and soldiers to participate in training courses on peacekeeping at home and abroad.
 
Major General Dao Xuan Lan also asked the UN to support the Vietnamese Ministry of Public Security in training police officers for UN peacekeeping operations. Such training courses include pre-deployment training, specialized training, professional training in the field, testing (SAAT).

He also asked the UN Department of Peace Operations to share information on the situation of UN peacekeeping missions, and arrange field trips to UN peacekeeping missions and UN training centers for Vietnamese police officers.
