Deputy Minister Pham The Tung reviews security protection plan for 16th National Assembly elections

The Ministry of Public Security (MPS) held a meeting, on the afternoon of February 27 in Hanoi, to review the deployment of the MPS security and order plan for the election of deputies to the 16th National Assembly and deputies to People’s Councils at all levels for the 2026–2031 tenure.

Presenting a report on the implementation of the plan of public security units and agencies nationwide, Chief of the MPS Office Major General Nguyen Quoc Toan stated that the Ministry’s leadership had identified the safeguarding of security and order for the elections as a central and overarching political task of the entire Public Security Forces in 2026. Accordingly, the Ministry established the Election Security and Order Subcommittee, headed by Deputy Minister Pham The Tung.

Based on the Ministry’s master plan and the Subcommittee’s directions, public security units and agencies nationwide have developed their specific plans and assigned detailed responsibilities to each specialized section and each commune-level police unit for ensuring security and order for each area during the elections.

According to reports at the meeting, public security units and agencies have proactively and thoroughly grasped the order and security situation, detected and prevented potential risks and threats to security and safety in the buildup to the elections early, from afar and at the grassroots level while avoiding any strategic surprise in all circumstances, thereby contributing to building a secure and safe environment for the elections.

At the meeting, delegates conducted an in-depth assessment of the security situation in the country, pointed out limitations and difficulties in implementing election security tasks, and agreed on key tasks to be carried out from now until the end of the elections.

Addressing the meeting, Deputy Minister Pham The Tung stressed that the election of deputies to the 16th National Assembly and People’s Councils at all levels for the 2026–2031 tenure is a major political event of the country in 2026.

He requested public security units and agencies to further review and revise their plans to ensure absolute security and safety for the elections, while clearly assigning responsibilities to specific personnel and reinforcing forces to key and complex communes.

He also directed all public security units and agencies to effectively implement campaigns launched by the Ministry and local authorities to combat and suppress crime, ensure traffic safety, safeguard cybersecurity and strengthen immigration management, thereby maintaining nationwide security and order and creating the most favorable conditions for the organization of the elections.
