MPS promotes cooperation with foreign law enforcement agencies

Minister of Public Security General Luong Tam Quang hosted a meeting for heads of foreign law enforcement delegations attending the celebration of the 80th founding anniversary of the People’s Public Security Forces of Vietnam on the afternoon of August 16, in Hanoi.

On behalf of the Ministry of Public Security (MPS) of Vietnam, Minister Luong Tam Quang warmly welcomed the heads of foreign law enforcement delegations and distinguished international guests to Vietnam, noting that their presence vividly demonstrates the spirit of solidarity, cooperation and mutual trust between the Ministry of Public Security of Vietnam and law enforcement agencies of other countries.

Minister Luong Tam Quang affirmed that since its establishment, the Vietnamese Public Security Forces have always regarded security and defense diplomacy as one of the key pillars in the country’s foreign policy, which helps convey Vietnam’s message of peace, justice and international responsibility to the world.

He revealed that the MPS has so far established relations with 164 law enforcement and security agencies of 65 countries, participated in 18 international security and police organizations, 13 security and police forums and 12 regional security cooperation mechanisms, while also maintaining cooperation through INTERPOL with 196 countries and territories. 

The areas of cooperation include political security, public order and safety, crime control and force building.

The Minister stressed that the above positive results in relations and cooperation with law enforcement and security agencies of countries and international organizations serve as a firm foundation for the Ministry of Public Security of Vietnam to expand cooperation with other foreign partners and international organizations in safeguarding national security and ensuring social order and safety as well as in preventing and combating transnational crimes.

According to Minister Luong Tam Quang, the Ministry of Public Security is continuously expanding its bilateral cooperation with foreign law enforcement and security agencies of foreign countries in terms of both form and content through delegation exchanges, information sharing, operational coordination, technical assistance and training.

At the same time, the MPS actively engages in multilateral mechanisms, makes its part to bringing into full play the role of international organizations in preventing transnational crime and contributing to peacekeeping operations.

In the current unpredictable security situation in the region and the world as well as in the face of complex traditional and non-traditional security challenges such as terrorism, drug trafficking, human trafficking and cybercrime, Vietnam prioritizes international cooperation in security industry, digital transformation, innovation and joint efforts to combat emerging crimes, underscored Minister Luong Tam Quang.

On this occasion, Minister Luong Tam Quang called on the heads of the participating foreign law enforcement delegations to continue strengthening coordination with the MPS of Vietnam, with a view to strengthening bilateral and multilateral cooperation in a deeper and more effective manner.

He affirmed that enhanced collaboration would contribute to safeguarding national security, maintaining social order and safety and fostering peace, stability and common development in the region and the world.
