During meetings with the KNPA, the two sides assessed that cooperation between the two agencies has developed positively over recent years, making important contributions to ensuring security and social order, combating crime and protecting citizens of both countries.
The two sides agreed that existing cooperation mechanisms, particularly the Deputy Ministerial-Level Police Cooperation Meeting, have contributed to strengthening coordination in combating transnational crime and organizing professional training programs and capacity-building projects for the Public Security Forces.
Speaking at the meeting, KNPA Acting Commissioner General Yoo Jae Seong highly appreciated the effectiveness of bilateral cooperation, particularly in upgrading the status of the Liaison Desk and preparing for the next Deputy Ministerial-Level Police Cooperation Meeting and the 4th Cultural and Sports Exchange Program to be held in Vietnam.
The Korean side affirmed that it would continue coordinating with Vietnam’s Ministry of Public Security in combating transnational crime, apprehending and repatriating fugitives, protecting Vietnamese nationals and implementing police cooperation projects.
On behalf of Vietnam’s Ministry of Public Security, Deputy Minister Le Quoc Hung proposed that the two sides continue strengthening delegation exchanges, information sharing and coordination in combating transnational crime.
He also expressed hope that the Korean side would continue supporting capacity building for Vietnamese officers in the fields of cybersecurity, transnational crime investigation, data management and human resource training.
Beyond police cooperation, law enforcement cooperation at sea and on inland waterways was also identified as an area of mutual interest.
KCG Acting Commissioner General Jang In Sik highly valued the results of bilateral cooperation since the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding in 2023.
The Korea Coast Guard noted that it has successfully implemented training programs for Vietnam’s waterway traffic police force, conducted technical inspections of transferred vessels, while wishing to send Korean officers to Vietnamese-language courses organized by Vietnam’s Ministry of Public Security.
On this occasion, Deputy Minister Le Quoc Hung proposed that the Korea Coast Guard continue supporting training programs and the transfer of equipment and vessels for the Vietnamese waterway police to efficiently carry out law enforcement activities in inland and coastal waters, as well as foster coordination in ensuring maritime security and safety.
Within the framework of the working trip, Deputy Minister Le Quoc Hung also visited the Chungjeong-ro Police Station in Seoul.
