Promoting international cooperation against online scams and human trafficking

During the visit, Deputy Minister Nguyen Van Long paid a courtesy call on Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister Neth Savoeun, and had working sessions with Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sar Sokha, as well as Commissioner General of the Cambodian National Police General Sar Theth.

Deputy Minister Nguyen Van Long conveyed warm regards from Member of the Politburo and Minister of Public Security General Luong Tam Quang to the leaders of the Cambodian Government, the Ministry of Interior, and the Cambodian Police Force. He highly praised Cambodia's recent achievements in combating various types of crime, particularly online scams, and expressed firm confidence that Cambodia will attain even greater successes in the time ahead.

Regarding bilateral cooperation between the Ministry of Public Security of Viet Nam and the Ministry of Interior of Cambodia, Deputy Minister Nguyen Van Long expressed gratitude to the leadership of the Cambodian Government and Ministry of Interior for supporting bilateral cooperation in line with the high-level common understandings reached by the two countries' leaders on safeguarding security and public order. He also commended the fruitful joint operations between functional forces of the two sides in dismantling numerous online scam networks, drug syndicates, and apprehending wanted fugitives.

Deputy Minister Nguyen Van Long reaffirmed Viet Nam’s consistent principle of never allowing any hostile force to utilize one country's territory to conduct sabotage against the other. He proposed that law enforcement agencies of the two nations step up cooperation in fighting criminal offenses, drug trafficking, high-tech crimes, online scams, and the organization of illegal entry and exit.

For their part, the Cambodian leaders expressed sincere gratitude to the Ministry of Public Security of Viet Nam for dispatching a delegation to ICCOS 2026. They commended the Ministry of Public Security of Viet Nam’s operational units for their close, timely and effective coordination with Cambodian counterparts in combating online fraud and rescuing victims.

Leaders of the Cambodian Government and Ministry of Interior spoke highly of the comprehensive cooperation between the two ministries across all fronts and expressed their desire to learn from international experiences, including Viet Nam's expertise, in combating online fraud.

The Cambodian side proposed that both sides intensify public awareness campaigns detailing the tactics of online scammers, and further strengthen coordination to crack down on and completely eradicate all scam centers across the region.

On the sidelines of ICCOS 2026, Deputy Minister Nguyen Van Long and the high-ranking delegation of the Ministry of Public Security of Viet Nam held a bilateral meeting with Minister of State at the UK Home Office David Hanson.

At the meeting, the two sides exchanged updates on emerging situations, methods, and tactics employed by online scam and human trafficking syndicates. They agreed to further enhance information exchange, joint investigation, and verification, support capacity-building and training for law enforcement personnel, and closely cooperate in victim protection and repatriation.
