Security and defense cooperation serves as pillar in Vietnam–Slovakia relations

Within the framework of his official visit to Slovakia, Minister of Public Security General Luong Tam Quang had meetings with Slovak Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense Robert Kalinak and Slovak Minister of the Interior Matus Sutaj Estok on the afternoon and evening of September 29 (local time), in Bratislava.

At his meeting with Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense Robert Kalinak, the two sides agreed to further strengthen cooperation in multiple fields in the time ahead, and affirmed that security and defense will continue to serve as one of the key pillars in Vietnam–Slovakia relations.

Minister Luong Tam Quang reaffirmed Vietnam’s consistent “four nos” national defense policy: no military alliances; no siding with one country against another; no foreign military bases or use of the Vietnamese territory to oppose other countries; and no use of force or threat to the use of force in international relations. 

He also stressed that the Ministry of Public Security of Vietnam looks forward to working with Slovak partners in research, production and technology transfer to serve the modernization of defense and security, contributing to ensuring national security and social order in each country.

During the talks with Minister of the Interior Matus Sutaj Estok, the two ministers agreed to expand cooperation in cybersecurity, accelerate the negotiation for the signing of agreements on extradition and the transfer of sentenced persons, and strengthen cooperation in police training.

They also pledged to further promote delegation exchanges at all levels to share experiences in crime prevention and control.

Concluding the talks, the two ministers signed a Letter of Intent between the Ministry of Public Security of Vietnam and the Ministry of the Interior of Slovakia on enhancing bilateral cooperation in areas of mutual concern.

As part of the visit, Minister Luong Tam Quang and the high-ranking delegation of the Ministry of Public Security of Vietnam also visited the Embassy of Vietnam in Slovakia, and toured facilities and professional units of the Slovak National Police Force to exploit opportunity for cooperation in law enforcement, fire prevention, firefighting and rescue operations between the two sides.
