Viet Nam, Canada promote security and law enforcement cooperation

Representatives and leadership of the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) also attended the meeting.

At the talks, the two sides highly appreciated the significant advancements in bilateral relations and affirmed their commitment to developing security and law enforcement cooperation into a solid pillar, commensurate with the newly established Strategic Partnership.

The two sides underscored the importance of bolstering coordination to combat transnational and high-tech crime, as well as sharing intelligence to track down and apprehend wanted fugitives. They firmly resolved not to allow hostile forces to utilize either country's territory to hide or conduct activities that infringe upon the national security of either nation.

Furthermore, they agreed to enhance cooperation in combating cybercrime, applying technology to law enforcement, promoting security industry collaboration, and sharing expertise in artificial intelligence, big data applications, and modern border management.

The two sides affirmed that the talks marked a new era of high-trust, substantive cooperation, making practical contributions to the national security of each nation and promoting peace and prosperity regionally and globally.

To elevate operational coordination, Minister Luong Tam Quang proposed establishing an annual Deputy Ministerial Security and Law Enforcement Dialogue, held on an alternating host basis. He also suggested increasing all-level delegation exchanges and coordinating efforts to ensure absolute safety and security for high-level visits and major international events hosted by either country, notably the APEC Summit in Viet Nam in 2027 and in Canada in 2029.

On this occasion, Minister Luong Tam Quang extended a formal invitation to Canadian Minister of Public Safety Gary Anandasangaree to visit Viet Nam and attend the High-Level International Conference on Combating Transnational Crime in the second quarter of 2027.

*On the same day, representatives from functional units under the Vietnamese Ministry of Public Security held a working session with executives of Canada’s Telesat Corporation.
