Vietnam, India strengthen security cooperation

Reviewing the outcomes of the bilateral cooperation since the Third Vietnam – India Deputy Ministerial Security Dialogue held in India in December 2024, Deputy Minister Pham The Tung noted that the Ministry of Public Security of Vietnam had selected and sent officers and students to India under the doctoral and bachelor’s scholarship programs in information technology and computer science, as well as assigned officers to participate in United Nations peacekeeping training courses organized by India’s Ministry of External Affairs and regularly exchanged information with the Indian Embassy on online fraud crimes and ASEAN countries’ response measures.

In the coming time, Deputy Minister Pham The Tung proposed that India early send expert delegations to Vietnam for in-depth exchanges on cybersecurity and the application of information technology to security protection work, as well as expedite the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation in handling cybersecurity incidents.

He also suggested further strengthening cooperation in research and transfer of key technologies related to unmanned aerial vehicles, semiconductors, chip manufacturing, artificial intelligence, and nanotechnology while expanding training and capacity-building for law enforcement forces of both countries.

Further, Deputy Minister Pham The Tung expressed his hope that the Indian National Security Council and relevant agencies would create favorable conditions and provide support for officers from the Ministry of Public Security of Vietnam to access scholarships for courses and peacekeeping training programs.

Sincerely thanking Deputy Minister Pham The Tung for the meeting, Indian Deputy National Security Advisor T. V. Ravichandran emphasized that security–defense cooperation is one of the seven key pillars that shape and strengthen the traditional friendly relationship between the two countries.

Affirming that potential for cooperation between the two sides in the security field remains large, the Indian Deputy National Security Advisor hoped that the Ministry of Public Security of Vietnam would continue to increase specific and practical cooperation activities with India, contributing to safeguarding national security and social order in each country and building a peaceful, stable and prosperous Asia–Pacific region.
