Further promoting Vietnam–U.S. Comprehensive Strategic Partnership

Minister of Public Security General Luong Tam Quang hosted a meeting with U.S. Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau on the afternoon of June 10 in Hanoi.

On behalf of the Ministry of Public Security, Minister Luong Tam Quang welcomed Deputy Secretary Christopher Landau to the Ministry on the occasion of his visit to Vietnam to participate in the ASEAN Future Forum 2026 in Hanoi.

He emphasized that the meeting provided a valuable opportunity for both sides to review the outcomes of bilateral cooperation and discuss practical and feasible approaches to further strengthen relations between the two countries.

Regarding Vietnam–U.S. relations, Minister Luong Tam Quang noted that, after 30 years of the normalization of relations and nearly three years of the establishment of the Vietnam-U.S. Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, bilateral ties have achieved remarkable progress.

The Minister stressed that the two countries have become a model in international relations for overcoming the past and building a future-oriented partnership based on shared interests, mutual trust and mutual respect.

In the current context of intertwined opportunities and challenges, Minister Luong Tam Quang underlined that the two sides should make greater efforts to strengthen strategic trust and effectively and substantively implement the Vietnam–U.S. Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.

He affirmed that the Ministry of Public Security of Vietnam, together with relevant Vietnamese agencies, stands ready to work closely with U.S. partners to discuss and identify specific directions for cooperation.

At the meeting, Minister Luong Tam Quang proposed that the United States Department of State continue to promote cooperation with Vietnam in areas of mutual interest, support Vietnam in building capacity and improving professional expertise for Vietnamese public security officer, and assist the Ministry of Public Security of Vietnam in upgrading facilities and equipment to support the Ministry’s efforts in combating transnational crime.

On behalf of the U.S. Department of State delegation, Deputy Secretary Christopher Landau thanked Minister Luong Tam Quang for receiving the delegation and expressed his agreement with the Minister’s assessment of bilateral relations and cooperation in recent years.

Deputy Secretary Christopher Landau affirmed that the United States is always ready to cooperate with the Ministry of Public Security and relevant Vietnamese agencies in effectively addressing issues of mutual concern and delivering practical benefits to the governments, people and businesses of both countries.
