For his part, Minister Luong Tam Quang stated that the State visit to Sri Lanka by General Secretary and President To Lam reaffirmed Vietnam’s high regard for the traditional friendship between Vietnam and Sri Lanka, on the one hand; it was marking a historic milestone as the two countries officially upgraded their ties to a “Comprehensive Partnership,” with the aim of creating breakthroughs and establishing a new framework for the bilateral relations.

At the talks, the two ministers noted that the Asia-Pacific and Indian Ocean regions continue to serve as dynamic centers of development in the world, while traditional and non-traditional security challenges are becoming increasingly complicated, directly threatening the national security of both Vietnam and Sri Lanka.

Over the past period, the two sides have maintained cooperation, exchanging law enforcement experience, coordinating in counterterrorism and transnational crime prevention, as well as sharing security information and their hands-on experience in participating in United Nations peacekeeping operations.

To further deepen relations between the Ministry of Public Security of Vietnam and the Ministry of Public Security and Parliamentary Affairs of Sri Lanka, the two ministers agreed to strengthen annual exchanges of high-level and expert-level delegations in the areas of mutual interest, expand cooperation in combating transnational crimes involving the two countries, particularly cybercrime and high-tech crime, and share experience in addressing traditional and non-traditional security challenges.
