Viet Nam, Mongolia vow to enhance security and law enforcement cooperation

During the working session on September 9 with Chief of the Office of the National Security Council of Mongolia D. Ariunbold, Deputy Minister Le Van Tuyen emphasized that the elevation of bilateral ties to a Comprehensive Partnership during the State visit to Mongolia by General Secretary and State President To Lam in September 2024 established a new framework for comprehensive cooperation, with security and law enforcement serving as a vital pillar. On that basis, bilateral ties between the Vietnamese MPS and the Office of the National Security Council of Mongolia have seen positive strides forward.

To deepen cooperation amid complex non-traditional security challenges and cybercrime, Deputy Minister Le Van Tuyen proposed that the two sides promptly implement a Deputy-Ministerial Security Dialogue mechanism, held alternately in each country, with the inaugural session in Viet Nam. He also called for the effective implementation of signed Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs), enhanced cooperation in cybersecurity, personal data protection, artificial intelligence (AI) governance, and enforcement of the Hanoi Convention on Cybercrime.

Additionally, both sides should step up joint efforts in combating transnational crime, safeguarding high-level delegations, and protecting the legitimate rights and interests of the Vietnamese community residing and working in Mongolia.

Chief of the Office D. Ariunbold expressed strong agreement with the initiatives on expanding bilateral cooperation made by the Vietnamese official. He affirmed that Mongolia will coordinate closely to maintain strategic information sharing, promptly launch the Deputy-Ministerial Security Dialogue, expand cooperation in cybersecurity and emerging technology risk management, and continue ensuring the safety and welfare of Vietnamese citizens in Mongolia.

On September 11, Deputy Minister Le Van Tuyen met with Deputy Minister of Justice and Home Affairs of Mongolia Munkh-Erdene.

Deputy Minister Le Van Tuyen highly appreciated the responsible cooperation of the Mongolian Ministry of Justice and Home Affairs in strengthening the capacity of the Vietnamese Mounted Police Force, thereby reinforcing the traditional friendship between the two nations.

In order to strengthen bilateral collaboration, Deputy Minister Le Van Tuyen suggested boosting joint efficiency in combating drug trafficking, human trafficking, money laundering, and online fraud. He also recommended effectively executing the 2023 MoU on immigration management, expanding experience-sharing in digitizing administrative procedures and biometric applications, stepping up personnel training, and maintaining mutual support at multilateral forums such as the United Nations and INTERPOL.

For his part, Deputy Minister Munkh-Erdene fully endorsed Deputy Minister Le Van Tuyen's suggestions and ideas. He affirmed that the Mongolian Ministry of Justice and Home Affairs stands ready to collaborate closely with the Vietnamese MPS in criminal information exchange, mutual legal assistance, and extradition. Mongolia will also boost cooperation in immigration management and specialist training, ensuring absolute security for diplomatic missions, high-level visits, and citizens of one country working and residing legally in the other.
