Vietnamese, Lao Ministries of Public Security hold 16th Security Cooperation Conference

The 16th Vietnam–Laos Security Cooperation Conference took place from April 9 to 10 in Vientiane, Laos.

Deputy Minister of Public Security Senior Lieutenant General Pham The Tung led a high-ranking delegation of the Ministry of Public Security of Vietnam to attend the conference.

The Lao delegation was headed by Deputy Minister of Public Security and Director General of the General Department of Security Lieutenant General En Un Anongnuth.

The conference served as an important platform for the security forces of the two countries to exchange views and reach consensus on orientations of cooperation and coordination in safeguarding national security and maintaining stability in each country, and building a peaceful, friendly and cooperative shared border, thereby contributing to further strengthening the great friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Laos.

Speaking at the conference, Deputy Minister Pham The Tung expressed his appreciation for the warm welcome extended by the Lao side and affirmed the importance of maintaining regular exchanges between security forces and public security units, particularly in border localities.

Under the co-chairmanship of Deputy Minister Pham The Tung and Deputy Minister En Un Anongnuth, delegates of both sides reviewed the implementation of the outcomes of the 15th conference held in March 2025 in Ho Chi Minh City, concluding that security forces of the two countries had maintained proactive and effective coordination in safeguarding national security.

Regarding future cooperation orientations, the two sides agreed to continue effectively implementing the existing cooperation mechanisms, particularly those between functional units and border local police forces, while prioritizing information exchange on national security issues to promptly prevent and address emerging challenges.

They also agreed to enhance coordination in responding to non-traditional security threats, strengthen cooperation in combating international terrorism within ASEAN frameworks and ensure security for major upcoming events in both countries.

Finally, the two Deputy Ministers signed the minutes of the 16th Vietnam–Laos Security Cooperation Conference.

On the same afternoon, Deputy Minister Pham The Tung paid a courtesy call on Minister of Public Security of Laos Senior Lieutenant General Vanthong Kongmany.

At the meeting, Deputy Minister Pham The Tung conveyed New Year greetings from Minister of Public Security General Luong Tam Quang on the occasion of Bunpimay (Lao New Year), and briefed the Lao Minister on the outcomes of the the 16th Vietnam–Laos Security Cooperation Conference.

Minister Vanthong Kongmany welcomed the Vietnamese delegation and hailed the success of the conference, affirming that it reflects the effective cooperation between the two ministries and contributes to further strengthening the solidarity between the two countries.
