UN leader speaks highly of Vietnamese Public Security Forces’ contribution to global peace and security

MPS - As part of his official visit to Vietnam, the United Nations (UN) Under-Secretary-General for Peace Operations Jean-Pierre Lacroix had a working session with the Ministry of Public Security’s (MPS) Standing Office for UN Peacekeeping Operations and Formed Police Unit No. 1 on June 13, at the Peacekeeping Training and Capacity-building Center in Hung Yen province.

During the working session, Mr. Jean-Pierre Lacroix highly appreciated the MPS's active efforts in training and deploying police officers to UN peacekeeping missions.

Leaders of the MPS Standing Office for Peacekeeping Operations briefed the UN delegation on the development of the Ministry's peacekeeping force as well as the procedures for personnel selection and pre-deployment training of Vietnamese police officers for UN peacekeeping operations.

The host affirmed that the Vietnamese Public Security Forces are strongly committed to effectively contributing to UN peacekeeping operations.

As part of the working trip, the UN delegation also visited Formed Police Unit No. 1, the first specialized police unit established by Vietnam’s MPS to be deployed to a UN peacekeeping mission.

In an open and cooperative atmosphere, UN Under-Secretary-General Jean-Pierre Lacroix and UN Police Adviser Faisal Shahkar shared hands-on experiences in peacekeeping operations with officers of the MPS's Formed Police Unit No. 1.

The visit marked an important milestone in relations between the UN and Ministry of Public Security of Vietnam, contributing to reinforcing mutual trust, expanding cooperation, and clearly asserting an increased role of Vietnam, particularly Vietnam’s MPS, in UN peacekeeping missions.
