Police forces effectively control drug crime in border communes

MPS - At its 37th session on the morning of September 13th, the Standing Committee of the National Assembly (NA) made comments on the Government’s reports on the work of preventing and fighting crimes and law violations as well as judgement execution.

Speaking at the meeting, Deputy Minister of Public Security Lieutenant General Pham The Tung revealed that, over the past time, the rate of crimes related to social order, corruption and economics has increased, while cybercrime has become more complicated and difficult to detect and handle, putting great pressure on the police force and other relevant agencies.

Regarding the fight against drug-related crimes, the deputy minister underscored the complexity, saying that heads of drug trafficking lines often hire local people in border areas to transport drugs.

Deputy Minister Pham The Tung stated that the Ministry of Public Security (MPS) has closely coordinated with Lao and Cambodian police forces to successfully solved a number of drug trafficking cases, arresting ringleaders committing the crime from abroad in accordance with the laws.

Deputy Minister Pham The Tung said that, to effectively prevent and combat drug-related crimes, the police forces have effectively implemented the project on drug prevention and control in border communes.

Accordingly, all the border communes nationwide sought to prevent drug-related offences, including drug abuse, from the community, effectively carried out rehabilitation programs for drug addicts, while paying more attention to ensure social security and spreading information about drug-related offences and laws on anti-narcotics among people, contributing to reducing the rate of drug-related crimes in the border areas.

Regarding drug traffickers using drones to sell and buy drugs, the Deputy Minister said that it was not a new type of crime but a new method of small-scale drug sales, underlining that the police forces have taken measures to combat this method of drug trading.
