MPS co-hosts national scientific conference on strategic issues in national defense in the era of national rise

MPS - The Ministry of Public Security, the Ministry of National Defense, the Central Commission for Communication, Education and Mass Mobilization, the Central Commission for Policy and Strategy, the Central Theoretical Council and the Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics co-organized a national scientific conference themed “Vietnam’s Development in the New Era and Strategic Issues in Safeguarding the Fatherland – Theory and Practice”, on the afternoon of July 3, in Hanoi.

The conference was co-chaired by Member of the Politburo and Minister of Public Security General Luong Tam Quang; Member of the Politburo, Chairman of the Central Theoretical Council and President of the Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics Prof. Dr. Nguyen Xuan Thang; Member of the Politburo and Head of the Central Commission for Communication, Education and Mass Mobilization Nguyen Trong Nghia; Secretary of the Party Central Committee and Head of the Central Commission for Policy and Strategy Tran Luu Quang; Member of the Party Central Committee and Deputy Minister of Public Security Senior Lieutenant General Le Quoc Hung Dr.; and Member of the Party Central Committee and Deputy Minister of National Defense Senior Lieutenant General Le Huy Vinh Dr.

The conference was honored to receive a guiding article titled “Vietnam’s Steady Progress into a New Era and Strategic Issues in Safeguarding the Fatherland” from Party General Secretary To Lam.

The conference aimed to study and clarify the “new era’s”, core meaning and Vietnam’s strategic transitions to realize the national aspiration for a prosperous and happy future in line with General Secretary To Lam’s ideological guidance.

It concurrently discussed new issues arising for the cause of national defense in the new era – an era of national rise.

During the conference, delegates analyzed various theoretical and practical foundations of Vietnam’s development as well as challenges posed to the mission of protecting the Fatherland.

Topics included building and rectifying the Communist Party in the nation’s new development era; safeguarding national interests in the new era; identifying security threats to the country in the digital age; leveraging Vietnam’s geostrategic value to advance to the rising era; and integrating socio-economic development with national defense and security.

Concluding the conference, Minister Luong Tam Quang stressed that national defense thinking in the new era should focus on creating, seizing and maximizing opportunities for national development. Further, it is needed to strengthen national defense and security potential and making more contributions to peace and stability in the region and the world. Finally, the implementation of national defense and security missions should create a new momentum and a continuous improvement of all aspects of people’s lives.

Minister Luong Tam Quang also underscored the immediate requirement to modernize the armed forces, strengthen national defense and security capabilities, and develop a dual-use, self-reliant national security-defense industry.

This industry should become a spearhead  of the industry thanks to its mastery of core and strategic technologies, especially in telecommunications, digital technology, artificial intelligence, data science and biotechnology.
