According to reports presented at the meeting, over the past year, thanks to close coordination between the Ministry of Public Security, the Ministry of National Defence, the Ministry of Home Affairs and provincial-level People’s Committees, more than 300,000 records of unidentified martyrs and their relatives have been updated and standardized, accounting for 42.3% of the total required number.
Furthermore, nearly 60,000 DNA samples have been collected from Vietnamese Heroic Mothers, biological mothers and relatives of fallen soldiers across the country, of which more than 11,000 samples have been analyzed and integrated into the national identity database.

By now, 16 DNA matching cases of fallen soldiers and their relatives have been found.
At the event, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh presented 15 DNA matching results with the exact remains of each fallen soldier to their families. For one family of a fallen soldier that could not attend the meeting, the Ministry of Public Security will deliver the DNA result and other information to them after the meeting.
In his speech, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh expressed deep emotion and gratitude to fallen heroes, especially as the nation is commemorating the 78th anniversary of Invalids and Martyrs’ Day (July 27).

He emphasized that the meeting was a profoundly humane and meaningful event, reflecting the Party and State’s responsibility to those who had laid down their lives for the nation.
Acclaiming the proactive efforts of the Ministry of Public Security and the strong coordination among ministries, sectors, localities and the entire political system in collecting DNA samples from relatives of fallen soldiers, the Prime Minister reaffirmed that the search, repatriation and identification of martyrs’ remains is a significant sacred mission of the entire political system and society.
He emphasized that this task must be carried out with the dedication and compassion of relevant agencies, the effective application of modern technologies and the active participation of citizens and businesses.

Regarding key tasks ahead, the Prime Minister requested that the Ministry of Public Security continue to work closely with relevant units and localities to further apply digital technologies, make full use of the national population database, integrate biometric and genetic data, and accelerate the process so that, by 2027, Vietnam will have essentially completed the collection of information and DNA samples from all unidentified martyrs meeting all standard conditions to be put in the national gene bank.
Speaking on behalf of the Ministry of Public Security, Deputy Minister Nguyen Van Long pledged to thoroughly implement the Prime Minister’s directives, saying that MPS will make a special effort to collect, analyze DNA of unnamed fallen soldiers and people with their relatives as unidentified fallen soldiers to achieve even greater results in the coming period.
