MPS wishes to promote cooperation with French Ministry of the Interior

MPS - Deputy Minister of Public Security Lieutenant General Pham The Tung hosted a meeting with Mr. Patrick Stefanini, French Minister of the Interior Senior Envoy to Immigration Affairs, on the morning of April 25, in Hanoi.

Welcoming the special representative to the Ministry of Public Security (MPS), Deputy Minister Pham The Tung noted that based on the sound relations between the two countries, the cooperation between Vietnam’s MPS and the French Ministry of the Interior has achieved positive results in various fields, including crime prevention and control, fire and rescue as well as combating illegal immigration and supporting Vietnamese public security officers to improve their abilities to join UN peacekeeping activities.

The host said that, following the agreement reached by the two ministers during their meeting on the sidelines of the Border Security Summit recently held in London, the two sides had actively discussed contents of a Governmental-level Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on the readmission of citizens and a Technical Agreement between Vietnam’s MPS and the Ministry of the Interior of France on combating illegal immigration and repatriating illegal migrants.

The host hoped that the two sides would sign these two cooperation documents during the upcoming official visit of French President Emmanuel Macron to Vietnam at the end of May 2025.

To further enhance cooperation between the two ministries, Deputy Minister Pham The Tung proposed that the French side continue to support to build capacity of Vietnamese police peacekeepers, immigration officers and aviation security officers.

Additionally, the Deputy Minister suggested that France create favorable conditions for corporations specializing in the manufacture of modern equipment to boost their cooperation with Vietnam’s MPS to supply the Vietnamese side with modern aviation security systems, such as walk-through metal detectors, explosive detection devices and X-ray scanning systems.

Sincerely thanking Deputy Minister Pham The Tung for the meeting, Mr. Patrick Stefanini proposed that Vietnam’s MPS closely coordinate with the French Ministry of the Interior to ensure absolute security and safety of the French President during his upcoming official visit to Vietnam.

The guest also committed that he would do his best to further strengthen relations between the two countries in general and between Vietnam’s MPS and French law enforcement agencies in particular, contributing to elevating the comprehensive strategic partnership between Vietnam and France to new heights.
