Dien Bien Police active in supporting former prisoners

September, 04 2018
MPS - It is often not easy for ex-prisoners to reintegrate into the society after serving their sentences. The Provincial Police of Dien Bien advised the Provincial People’s Committee to call on local agencies, including the Provincial People’s Committee and Provincial Police Department, and other organizations to support ex-prisoners by raising funds and providing preferential loans for them to do business, stabilize their lives, and improve their incomes.

Police officers Dien Bien Dong visit and encourage former prisoners.

According to statistics, Dien Bien Dong district is now home to 456 people who have recently been released from prisons or educational and rehabilitation centers. Many of these people recommitted crimes due to their unemployment.  Since the foundation of the fund for rehabilitation, ex-prisoners have been given loans to do business and reintegrate into the community.

The fund enables former prisoners to do business and stabilize their lives.

Supporting the former prisoners to reintegrate into the society is the responsibility of the police forces, the local Party organizations and authorities and the community, and giving loans to them can be seen as a good approach to help the former prisoners to soon become good citizens and prevent them from recommitting crimes. Since 2016, the Dien Bien Dong Police Station has offered 7 former prisoners loans, each worth VND 20 million, extracted from the Fund for Rehabilitation. All borrowers have used the money for good purposes effectively, making their lives better, and they have returned the loans exactly under the contracts. A large number of ex-prisoners also participated actively in the movement of national security protection.

Ex-prisoners develop their business thanks to the loans from the Reintegration Fund.

This is an effective and humane model of the Dien Bien Dong District Police that should be duplicated in other localities so as to support more ex-prisoners to quickly reintegrate into the community.
