Quang Nam police crack down on major gambling ring amid COVID-19

MPS - Recently, the Quang Nam Provincial Police Department successfully cracked down on a large-scale gambling ring and arrested 41 persons involved in Quang Nam.

According to the investigation agency record, Tran Tuyet Bang Son (born in 1986, residing in Hoa Huong ward, Tam Ky city) was the leader of the large gambling ring. The illegal gambling ring’s leaders chosen the terrain of high mountain and forest in Phu Ninh Lake area for the gambling den to avoid the police.

An entrance fee was VND 200,000 for an hour and a game might be worth from VND 50 million to VND 100 million for each game. Their illegal activities affected the local security and order, undermined the national effort to prevent COVID-19 pandemic, and led to public anger.

At 5.00 p.m., April 9, the Criminal Police Division, in coordination with the Mobile Police Division under the Quang Nam Provincial Police Department, launched a raid on the base of the gambling ring when many people were participating in illegal gambling in Phu Ninh Lake area.

At the scene, the police arrested 41 subjects, including 10 females, and seized VND 400 million, 49 motorbikes, six cars and other related exhibits.

The Quang Nam Police Department is currently conducting further investigation into the case.
