At approximately 4:45 p.m. on June 14, a 13-year-old boy residing in Thach Chau commune, Thach Ha district, went swimming at Xuan Hai beach. Unfortunately, he was swept away by strong waves and could not return to the shore.
Some people on the beach called for help as they did not have life-saving equipment or skills to carry out the rescue in such rough sea.
Upon receiving the case, Captain Hoang Van Be rushed to the scene and spotted the boy struggling in rough sea nearly 100 meters offshore.
Immediately, Captain Hoang Van Be, along with Nguyen Dinh Truong, a coast guard officer currently on leave and local resident Tran Van Thuan grabbed life buoys and swam out to the boy.
