2026 Viet Nam Cybersecurity Day activities launched

Jointly organized by the National Cybersecurity Steering Committee and the Ministry of Public Security, the events are held under the overarching theme: “For a humane cyberspace for everyone.”

Politburo Member and Prime Minister-cum-Head of the National Cybersecurity Steering Committee Le Minh Hung chaired the series of events.

Present at the program were Politburo Member and Minister of Public Security-cum- Standing Deputy Head of the National Cybersecurity Steering Committee General Luong Tam Quang, and Member of the Party Central Committee, Minister and Head of the Government Office-cum-Member of the National Cybersecurity Steering Committee Dang Xuan Phong.

The series opened with a meeting celebrating the Vietnam Cybersecurity Day, featuring a welcome art program themed “Cybersecurity for the People.”

Delivering the opening remarks, Prime Minister Le Minh Hung emphasized that since 2024, August 6 has been designated as the annual Vietnam Cybersecurity Day. 

This occasion serves as a call for the entire political system, the business community, and every citizen to join hands in building a safe, healthy, trustworthy and humane cyberspace; to promote a safe digital culture; and to raise social awareness, responsibility, and skills in safeguarding national sovereignty as well as the lawful rights and interests of citizens and businesses in cyberspace.

To meet the nation's development requirements in the digital era, the Prime Minister requested the entire political system and society to focus on effectively executing five core tasks:

First: Cybersecurity must closely and synchronously integrate system protection with human protection, taking the safety, peace and happiness of the People as the ultimate measure for all policies.

Second: Ministries, sectors and localities must clearly demonstrate their enabling role, while the National Cybersecurity Steering Committee must maximize its coordinating role, focusing on perfecting the legal framework, removing bottlenecks in cybersecurity, data security and personal data protection; and instituting strictly enforceable sanctions to severely handle violations in cyberspace, thereby ensuring a safe, healthy and trustworthy digital environment.

Third: Dedicated cybersecurity forces must firmly maintain their role as a “steel shield,” resolutely safeguarding national digital sovereignty, and drastically shifting their operational approach from passive response to proactive prevention from an early stage and from afar. They must enhance their capacity to proactively grasp and forecast situations, coordinate in preventing and dismantling high-tech crime rings, especially transnational syndicates, and maintain a safe, civilized and humane digital environment for the People.

Fourth: Technology, telecommunications, and financial enterprises must embrace their mission to accompany the nation and shoulder social responsibilities. Commercial enterprises and banks must proactively transition to human-centered security architectures, integrating built-in protection features and fully automated, free-of-charge scam alerts for users; they must actively research and master science and technology to deliver simplicity and absolute safety to citizens.

Fifth: Every citizen needs to equip themselves with digital skills, raise their awareness and self-protection capabilities, and practice digital civility in cyberspace to become an active digital shield participating in cybersecurity defense.

As part of the event series, the National Cybersecurity Steering Committee held a ceremony to announce its newly consolidated membership pursuant to the Prime Minister’s Decision No. 1100/QD-TTg dated June 19, 2026, and convened its second regular meeting of 2026.

At the meeting, under the direction of Prime Minister-cum-the National Cybersecurity Steering Committee Le Minh Hung comprehensively evaluated the performance of the National Steering Committee and the Cybersecurity Subcommittees at ministries, sectors and localities during the first six months of 2026. The committee discussed breakthrough strategies and solutions to protect cybersecurity, data security, personal data, national security and national digital sovereignty in cyberspace. They also reached a consensus on the key directions and tasks for the final six months of 2026 to achieve the dual goal: firmly safeguarding national cybersecurity and data security as an enabling foundation to serve the country's economic, cultural, social, and foreign affairs development.

Following the meeting, the leaders and delegates visited the exhibition and inspected the live-fire cybersecurity systems of the People's Public Security Forces. They also toured and inspected the forces' combat readiness, their capacity to control and prevent risks from an early stage and from afar, and their ability to mobilize and organize operational forces to safeguard cybersecurity and national digital sovereignty in cyberspace.
