Minister Luong Tam Quang receives newly accredited U.S. Ambassador

Minister of Public Security General Luong Tam Quang received U.S. Ambassador to Vietnam Jennifer Wicks McNamara, on the occasion of the start of her diplomatic tenure, on August 7, in Hanoi.

On behalf of the Ministry of Public Security of Vietnam, Minister Luong Tam Quang congratulated Ambassador Jennifer Wicks McNamara on her appointment. Expressing confidence that, with her capacity and extensive experience gained from various important positions within the U.S. political system, the Minister believed that the Ambassador would inherit and build upon the achievements of her predecessors, further deepening the Vietnam–U.S. Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in an increasingly substantive and comprehensive manner, for the benefit of the peoples of both countries, and for peace, prosperity and security in the region and the world.

Regarding Vietnam–U.S. relations, Minister Luong Tam Quang noted that bilateral ties had recorded remarkable progress over the 30 years since the normalization of relations and nearly three years since the implementation of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.

In the coming period, Minister Luong Tam Quang proposed that Ambassador Jennifer Wicks McNamara and the U.S. Embassy in Vietnam promote contacts and delegation exchanges at all levels, effectively utilize existing dialogue mechanisms, accelerate negotiations toward the signing of a reciprocal trade agreement, and advance other important bilateral matters of mutual interest.

Regarding specialized cooperation, Minister Luong Tam Quang proposed that the U.S. Embassy continue serving as a bridge to deepen substantive cooperation in security and crime prevention and control between the Ministry of Public Security of Vietnam and U.S. law enforcement agencies. He also called on the two sides to study and effectively coordinate training and capacity-building activities aimed at improving the professional expertise and foreign-language proficiency of officers of the Ministry of Public Security of Vietnam.

Thanking Minister Luong Tam Quang for the warm reception, Ambassador Jennifer Wicks McNamara expressed her honor at assuming the position of U.S. Ambassador to Vietnam at a time when bilateral relations were developing strongly. She affirmed that the U.S. side stood ready to cooperate with the Ministry of Public Security and relevant Vietnamese authorities to effectively address matters of mutual interest.

Ambassador Jennifer Wicks McNamara highly appreciated the results of cooperation between the Ministry of Public Security and its U.S. partners. She stated that she would direct relevant agencies to study and coordinate with the Ministry of Public Security in effectively implementing specialized cooperation activities, thereby delivering tangible benefits to the governments, peoples and businesses of the two countries.
