Ensuring security and social order in support of socio-economic development in Mekong Delta

In his opening remarks, Minister Luong Tam Quang stressed that, in recent years, seriously implementing the Party’s guidelines and the State’s policies and laws on ensuring security and social order in support of socio-economic development, the Public Security Forces, the core force, closely coordinated with ministries, sectors and localities to proactively prevent, combat and suppress all types of crime and law violations threatening security and order, contributing to creating a secure and safe environment to effectively support socio-economic development, and improves living standards for people in the Mekong Delta and neighboring areas.

The Government convened the meeting to raise the public awareness of the importance of ensuring order and security, and define objectives, tasks and solutions to continue effectively implementing the Party’s viewpoints and the State’s policies and laws in a “breakthrough” way, as well as to try to remove difficulties and bottlenecks, mobilize all resources for socio-economic development while ensuring security and order in the Mekong Delta and neighboring areas. The local police should prevent complex security incidents or security hotbeds from arising.

At the meeting, delegates watched a documentary providing an insight into the security situation in the Mekong Delta and neighboring areas, highlighting achievements as well as pointing out shortcomings, difficulties, underlying causes and potential risks that could undermine local security and order.

The meeting also set out guiding viewpoints, objectives and 6 groups of tasks and solutions to ensure security and order in support of socio-economic development in the region in the coming period.

Concluding the meeting, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh affirmed that the Mekong Delta and neighboring areas hold particularly important strategic significance in terms of politics, socio-economy, defense, security, ecology and foreign affairs, adding that the region serves as the country’s southern “gateway” and is closely linked to the cause of national construction and the protection of territorial sovereignty.

The Prime Minister requested that ministries, sectors and localities identify security and order protection as an important, urgent, regular and long-term political task under the Party’s direct, absolute and comprehensive leadership and the State’s management and administration. The task also requires the synergy of the entire political system from the central level to local and the united power of the people.

He called on ministries, sectors and localities to focus on implementing five pivotal and overarching task groups, stressing the need to ensure the close combination of socio-economic development with defense and security and to carry them out from the grassroots level under the “four-on-site forces”  principle.

In the immediate term, in 2026, the Prime Minister assigned ministries, sectors and localities to complete seven major priority task groups, focusing on developing the economy, culture, education and healthcare in the Mekong Delta region.
