MPS holds ministerial scientific conference on national security

The Ministry of Public Security held a ministerial scientific conference entitled “National Security and National Security Protection in the New Development Era – Theoretical and Practical Issues,” on the morning of May 20 in Hanoi.

In his opening remarks, Deputy Minister Pham The Tung underlined that, in the country’s new era, the concepts of national security and national security protection are not only limited to the scope of safeguarding territorial sovereignty or maintaining social order and safety, but also expanded into many new areas.

He noted that the 14th National Party Congress identified the viewpoint of “ensuring comprehensive security and strategic autonomy, taking high-level development in politics, economy, culture, healthcare, education, science, technology, environment, people and foreign affairs as the main driving force for maintaining national stability in the new development era, while preserving a peaceful and stable environment as a prerequisite for national development.”

Under the theme “National Security and National Security Protection in the New Development Era – Theoretical and Practical Issues,” the conference received 52 high-quality scientific reports from senior public security officers, experts and scientists within and outside the Public Security Forces.

At the conference, delegates intensively analyzed and clarified numerous theoretical and practical issues relating to the concepts of national security and national security protection in the new development era.

Concluding the conference, on behalf of the Public Security Central Party Committee and the Ministry of Public Security’s leadership, Minister Luong Tam Quang sincerely thanked current and former leaders of the Ministry, senior public security officers, experts and scientists for attending the conference and providing many valuable opinions.

Minister Luong Tam Quang highlighted that the delegates had reached consensus on the need to assess factors affecting Vietnam’s national security in the new era, as well as on the ability to recognize opportunities and challenges for national security and national security protection. He stressed that factors affecting Vietnam’s national security in the new era stem not only from internal and external elements or non-traditional security threats, but also from emerging spaces.

During the conference, delegates also clarified many theoretical and practical issues, further concretizing the Party’s new thinking and perspectives on national security and national security protection, thereby contributing positively to the development and improvement of the Resolution of the 14th Party Central Committee on the National Security Strategy in the new era.

Minister Luong Tam Quang requested functional agencies, academies and educational institutions to actively utilize the conference’s outcomes in advising on the development of the National Security Protection Strategy Project to be submitted to the 4th Plenum of the 14th Party Central Committee, as well as in directing and implementing national security protection tasks and in education and training activities.
