Vietnam, Morocco strengthen cooperation in security, migration control and peacekeeping

Within the framework of his working visit to Africa, Deputy Minister of Public Security Senior Lieutenant General Pham The Tung held a working session with the Ministry of the Interior of Morocco on April 13 (local time) in Morocco.

At the session, Deputy Minister Pham The Tung expressed his satisfaction with the growing traditional friendship between Vietnam and Morocco across multiple fields, including politics, diplomacy and economic cooperation.

He noted that, based on this positive relationship, law enforcement agencies of the two countries have maintained regular information exchange and close coordination through INTERPOL channels and diplomatic mechanisms, contributing to enhancing the effectiveness of combating cross-border crime, high-tech crime and illegal migration.

To further deepen cooperation, both sides agreed to promote exchange of delegations at all levels, strengthen information and experience sharing in preventing and combating various types of crime, particularly organized, transnational and high-tech crimes, as well as terrorism, drug-related crime, human smuggling and illegal immigration.

The two sides also agreed to efficiently execute each other’s requests for extradition, transfer of sentenced persons as well as investigation and arrest of fugitives wanted by each country.

In addition, both parties emphasized the importance of promoting exchange of information on regional and global security developments and crime trends, while considering the negotiation and signing of cooperation agreements between the Ministry of Public Security of Vietnam and the Moroccan Ministry of the Interior on combating illegal migration and the readmission of citizens.

In the immediate future, both sides will coordinate to organize online meetings and exchange delegations to share experience and information on illegal migration.

Other areas of cooperation discussed at the meeting included immigration management, prevention of forged documents, participation in United Nations peacekeeping operations and the organization of French- and Arabic-language training courses for officers of the Vietnamese Public Security Forces.

On the same day, Deputy Minister Pham The Tung and the delegation also held a working session with the Royal Moroccan Armed Forces and the Moroccan Administration of National Defense.

At this meeting, the Deputy Minister provided an overview of Vietnam’s participation in United Nations peacekeeping operations, emphasizing that such participation is considered an important political task, reflecting the responsibility of Vietnam as a member of the international community for international security and stability.

To further promote cooperation in this field, the two sides agreed to strengthen coordination in training and deployment of their peacekeeping forces, provide language training for Vietnamese officers and enhance exchanges of delegations at various levels, while exploring the possibility of signing cooperation agreements on peacekeeping in the future.
