
Vietnamese police peacekeepers join hands to maintain peaceful and stable environment in Central African Republic
A delegation of the Ministry of Public Security led by Deputy Minister of Public Security Senior Lieutenant General Pham The Tung arrived in Bangui, Central African Republic, on April 15, beginning a working visit to the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in the Central African Republic (MINUSCA).

During the visit, Deputy Minister Pham The Tung paid courtesy calls on Acting Police Commissioner Amadou Fofana and Deputy Force Commander Major General Maychel Asmi.
At the meetings, the Deputy Minister expressed appreciation to MINUSCA leadership for the briefed information, and commended the mission’s units for their effective coordination with the host country in ensuring security and successfully organizing the first round of presidential, parliamentary and local elections — an event of significant importance to peace and stability in the region.
He affirmed that Vietnam consistently regards its participation in United Nations peacekeeping operations as an important political task, demonstrating its responsibility as a member of the international community.
Deputy Minister Pham The Tung also provided an overview of Vietnam’s participation in UN peacekeeping missions, particularly deployments of personnel and units from the People’s Army and the Public Security Forces in South Sudan, the Central African Republic, the Abyei area and at the United Nations Headquarters in New York, the United States.
Highly appreciating the support of MINUSCA in facilitating the deployment of Vietnamese police officers, he proposed that the mission’s leadership continue to advocate and advise the United Nations on an expansion of Vietnam’s participation of individual police officers as well as of Vietnam’s Formed Police Unit No.1 in UN peacekeeping missions.
For their part, Acting Police Commissioner Amadou Fofana and Deputy Force Commander Maychel Asmi briefed the delegation on the overall situation in the country after the December 2025 elections, focusing on tasks related to civilian protection and law enforcement operations. They highlighted the achievements of the mission in the past time, pointed difficulties and challenges, and the mission’s priorities in the coming time.
They spoke highly of the contributions of Vietnamese police officers, who are professional and well-trained, saying that the Vietnamese police peacekeepers have contributed to maintaining a peaceful and stable environment for cooperation and development in the Central African Republic.

The two UN officials also expressed their willingness to continue supporting and creating favorable conditions for Vietnamese officers to successfully fulfill their assigned tasks.
On the same occasion, Acting Police Commissioner Amadou Fofana and Deputy Minister Pham The Tung presented the United Nations Peacekeeping Medal to six officers of Working Group No. 6 of the Ministry of Public Security currently serving at MINUSCA.
