According to Deputy Minister Luong Tam Quang, the two new laws were adopted by the 14th National Assembly at the 8th session in November 2019 and took effect from July 1, 2020.

At the conference, leaders of the Immigration Department under the MPS briefed the delegates on the basic contents and new regulations of the two laws, and their relevant legal documents and instructions.

Particularly, Law No. 49 allows citizens with ID cards to apply for passports for the first time at any provincial-level immigration agencies rather than at the immigration agencies of permanent or temporary places as prescribed by the old laws.

Meanwhile, Law No. 51 annuls the regulations banning foreigners on a unilateral visa-free basis from re-entering Vietnam within 30 days since their latest exit from the country. The law also permits foreign visitors to change their entry purposes and extend the temporary residence of foreign investors.

Senior Colonel Tran Van Du, Deputy Director of the Immigration Department under the MPS briefs the delegates on the basic contents and new regulations of the two laws.

Speaking at the conference, Deputy Minister Luong Tam Quang stressed that revised Law No. 49 and amended Law No. 51 have a wide scope, affecting the operations of various ministries, agencies, organizations, and individuals.

Overview of the conference.

The two laws have contributed to institutionalizing the policies of the Party and the State of creating favorable conditions for citizens and foreign people to entry and exit the country, and strengthening the State governance of immigration, as well as ensuring national security and maintaining social order and safety.
