At the working session, Deputy Minister Pham The Tung affirmed Vietnam’s consistent support for multilateralism and the UN role in coordinating global efforts to effectively address current non-traditional security challenges, such as climate change, food insecurity, water security, transnational crime and strategic competition among major powers.

Highly appreciating the UN's support for Vietnam on its path toward sustainable development, Deputy Minister Pham The Tung stated that over the past time, the Ministry of Public Security of Vietnam has closely coordinated with UN agencies in combating terrorism, human trafficking and transnational crime, and promoting gender equality, while actively participating in UN peacekeeping operations.
The Vietnamese official revealed that the Ministry of Public Security of Vietnam has sent one police officer to work at the Department of Peace Operations at the UN Headquarters and 15 officers to join peacekeeping missions in South Sudan and Abyei. At this point of time, Vietnam’s MPS is training Formed Police Unit No. 1, which has reached Level 2 of the UN's deployment readiness system.
At the meeting, Deputy Minister Pham The Tung proposed that the UN continue to provide technical assistance and organize training programs for Vietnamese police peacekeepers, as well as create favorable conditions for the Ministry to deploy Peacekeeping Formed Police Unit No. 1 to a UN peacekeeping mission in the near future.

He also sought support from the Assistant Secretary-General for Vietnam’s candidacy for seats at key UN bodies, such as the Human Rights Council (UNHRC), the Security Council (UNSC) and the International Law Commission (ILC).
Assistant Secretary-General Alexander Zouev praised the Ministry of Public Security of Vietnam for its active contributions to UN initiatives over the past time.
The Assistant Secretary-General also reaffirmed his commitment, saying that he will continuously support cooperation between the Ministry of Public Security of Vietnam and UN agencies, particularly in the area of peacekeeping operations.
