During the talks, Minister Luong Tam Quang and the Italian official highlighted cooperation activities between the Ministry of Public Security of Vietnam and the Italian Ministry of the Interior over the past time, and both recognized positive results of the bilateral cooperation, especially after the visit to Italy by General To Lam, the then Minister of Public Security and the current General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam, in July 2023.
The two ministers agreed that the two sides had effectively cooperated in exchanging hands-on experience in preventing and combating various types of crimes, particularly transnational organized crime, cybercrime, drug trafficking and illegal migration, as well as in training and capacity building of Vietnamese police peacekeepers.

Regarding the international landscape, the two ministers agreed that the current global security situation is quite complex with unprecedented challenges while traditional and non-traditional security threats continue to exert multidimensional and direct impacts on the national security of both Vietnam and Italy.
Against this backdrop, the two sides agreed to further promote the exchange of delegations and strengthen coordination and mutual support at multilateral forums and international organizations to which both countries are party, particularly multilateral forums on non-traditional security threats, cybersecurity and counter-terrorism.
Additionally, the two sides also agreed to actively exchange criminal information, jointly investigate and address criminal cases involving citizens of both countries as well as assist each other in arresting and extraditing wanted fugitives in accordance with each country’s legal regulations and international law.

In addition, the two ministers reaffirmed their commitment to creating favorable conditions for one country’s citizens living, working, studying and travelling legally in the other country.
To effectively implement the agreed-upon cooperation areas, Minister Luong Tam Quang and Minister Matteo Piantedosi signed a Letter of Intent on the Establishment of a Joint Committee to promote bilateral cooperation in crime prevention and control between the Ministry of Public Security of Vietnam and the Ministry of the Interior of Italy.
