The workshop aimed to extensively evaluate the current situation of wildlife trafficking and zoonotic disease risks in the two countries and discussed approaches to effectively prevent and combat environmental crime in general and wildlife trafficking in particular, contributing to building the capacity of front-line officers in charge of preventing and combating illegal wildlife trafficking.
Delivering his opening speech, Lieutenant General Tran Minh Le underlined that the workshop would not only evaluate the obtained results of preventing and combating wildlife trafficking but also point out remaining shortcomings and limitations in the work and seek effective approaches and efficient coordination mechanisms for the two environmental police forces to support each other in wildlife trafficking prevention and control, contributing to protecting the biodiversity and avoiding the spreading of zoonotic diseases in the two countries.

The workshop took place on December 10th – 11th, 2024.
During the workshop, delegates were expected to discuss inter-sectoral coordination in addressing illegal wildlife trafficking cases, seek to complete the legal corridor on wildlife trafficking prevention and zoonotic disease risks control, as well as work on an action plan between the two countries to fight wildlife trafficking and zoonotic disease risks.

Within the framework of the workshop, delegates also had a field trip to the Cai Mep Port to learn about activities with high risk of zoonotic diseases.
