Vietnamese rescue police team ends rescue mission in Myanmar

MPS - The Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement of Myanmar held a ceremony to honor rescue teams from five Southeast Asian countries, namely Vietnam, Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia and the Philippines, for their assistance in relieving the aftermath of the recent devastating earthquakes in the country, on the afternoon of April 6, 2025.

These teams were among the first to arrive in Myanmar shortly after the earthquake.

At the ceremony, Minister of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement of Myanmar Dr. Soe Win highly appreciated the rescue teams’ tireless efforts in search and rescue operations as well as their assistance for local victims.

In his remarks, Dr. Soe Win also conveyed his sincere gratitude to the governments of the five Southeast Asian countries for their sympathy and timely assistance for Myanmar at the time of the natural disaster.

At the ceremony, the Myanmar authority released that the search and rescue phase was concluded, and now the country begins the reconstruction phase.

Over the course of the seven-day mission, the rescue team from the Ministry of Public Security of Vietnam found the bodies of seven victims and coordinated with other teams to take seven additional victims out of collapsed buildings and handed them over to the local authorities and their families.

Earlier on the same day, the Vietnamese rescue team visited and presented gifts to seriously injured earthquake victims under treatment at two field hospitals: One with 100 beds located at Shwe Kyarpin Football Stadium in Zabuthiri Town is treating 96 patients, and the other with 60 beds at an outdoor stadium in Pyinmana district is nursing 48 patients.

In total, the Ministry of Public Security of Vietnam’s rescue team provided nearly 3 tons of humanitarian aid and donated 20 million kyat (Myanmar currency) to local victims. The money was donated by team members and other benefactors.
