HCMC Municipal Police reviews task performance in 2018

MPS - The Municipal Police Department of Ho Chi Minh City (HCMC) organized a conference on January 11 to review its task performance in 2018 and roll out its new working plans for 2019. Senior Lieutenant General To Lam, Politburo member and Minister of Public Security delivered a keynote speech at the event.
The conference also saw the presence of Mr. Nguyen Thanh Phong, member of the Party Central Committee, Chairman of the HCMC Municipal People’s Committee and leaders of departments under the Ministry of Public Security (MPS).
 
Speaking at the conference, Minister To Lam highlighted the important, active and effective contributions of the Municipal Police of HCMC to the achievements of the whole Public Security Forces in 2018.

According to report at the conference, the municipal police force managed to reduce the number of criminal offences by 4.85% while successfully investigating 74.35% of all criminal cases and 83.58% of serious criminal cases. Additionally, the city’s police effectively cracked down on major gambling and prostitute rings.

Minister To Lam also pointed out the local police’s shortcomings and weaknesses. The Minister of Public Security asked the Municipal Police Department of HCMC to raise cadres’ and Party members’ sense of responsibility in setting good examples at work. 

Minister Lam urged the city’s police force to promote coordination with functional agencies in promoting the management of immigration and foreigners, and enhance the control of weapons, explosives and combat gears. The Municipal Police should also step up the management of conditional business establishments, and drastically fight smuggling, counterfeits and acts of environmental pollution. 
 
Minister To Lam urged the HCMC Municipal Police to enhance the effectiveness of social and professional preventive measures, strive to reduce at least 3% of criminal offences in 2019 and 5% in 2020 year-on-year.
 
The Municipal Police of HCMC should focus on attacking criminal gangs and such crimes as theft and organized crime involving “black credit” in accordance with the direction of the Prime Minister. 
 
In the short term, Minister To Lam asked the city’s police force to ensure security, order and safety before, during and after the lunar New Year and festive season of 2019.
