MPS reviews investigation of large-scale drug trafficking case

MPS - The Ministry of Public Security (MPS) held a meeting to review a specialized criminal case, in which the police had cracked down on a large-scale drug trafficking gang equipped with military-grade weapons, on the afternoon of May 15, in Quang Ninh.

Deputy Minister of Public Security Lieutenant General Nguyen Van Long, Head of the Criminal Investigation Authority, chaired the meeting.

During the investigation, the participating police forces successfully arrested and prosecuted the suspects in accordance with the law.

By now, 17 suspects have been arrested and prosecuted for six different criminal offences.

The police also seized a large cache of exhibits, including 38 bars of heroin, 6 automobiles, 3 firearms, 154 bullets, 1 hand grenade and 10 detonators.

During the investigation, the Quang Ninh Provincial Police Department, in collaboration with other provincial-level police departments, mobilized maximum forces and means to successfully track and capture 3 fleeing suspects, including Bui Dinh Khanh, a particularly dangerous wanted criminal, in just 24 hours.

On behalf of the Public Security Central Party Committee and MPS leaders, Deputy Minister Nguyen Van Long hailed the high sense of determination, close collaboration and great efforts of the involved police units and agencies during the investigation and pursuit operations.

Regarding its follow-up tasks, Deputy Minister Nguyen Van Long urged the Quang Ninh Provincial Police Department to promptly complete the documentation of the case as well as expand the investigation so as to bring to court all those involved, in line with the laws.

The Deputy Minister also requested all police units and agencies to proactively advise local Party committees and authorities to effectively implement the Politburo’s Conclusion No. 132-KL/TW, the Government’s resolutions and the Ministry’s action plans on counter-narcotics in order to mobilize the synergy of the entire political system to join the course of drug prevention and control.

He also instructed all units to intensify manpower and resources to effectively suppress drug-related crimes, in response to the upcoming Action Month for Drug Prevention and Control in June 2025.
