MPS reviews Typhoon No.3 relief work

MPS - Deputy Minister of Public Security Lieutenant General Le Van Tuyen, Head of the Steering Committee for Climate Change Response, Disaster Prevention, Search and Rescue and Civil Defense under the Ministry of Public Security (MPS), chaired a meeting to review the work of relieving the aftermath of Typhoon No.3 and post-storm floods and landslides, on the morning of October 11th, in Hanoi.

According to reports delivered at the meeting, under the directions of the Party Central Committee, the Government and the Prime Minister on mobilizing maximum efforts to respond to Typhoon No.3 and mitigate post-storm hazards, MPS directed police departments of affected localities to closely coordinate with MPS under-ministerial departments to take effective measures to ensure security and order, actively address the natural disasters, carry out search and rescue operations, support local people in overcoming the consequences and restoring their lives and production after the typhoon.

Police units and agencies in affected localities proactively drafted detailed disaster responding plans, mobilized forces and means to be ready for emergency natural disaster situations in accordance with the principle of "proactive prevention, timely response, urgent and effective relief" and the motto "four on-site forces".

The local police units and agencies, especially the communal police force and the order and security support force at the grassroots level, mobilized maximum personnel to evacuate people and their assets to safe places, search for the missing, rescue and give first aid to the injured, bury dead victims as well as clean up the environment.

Speaking at the meeting, on behalf of the Public Security Central Party Committee and MPS leadership, Deputy Minister Le Van Tuyen praised various police units for their outstanding achievements in responding to Typhoon No.3 and relieving its aftermath in the past time.

To proactively prepare for complicated weather developments and climate change in the coming time, Deputy Minister Le Van Tuyen requested that all police units and agencies continue to effectively implement directions of the Party, the Government and MPS on disaster response and search and rescue work.

The Deputy Minister also requested the Public Security Forces to strengthen the coordination with ministries, branches and sectors at all levels, especially the People’s Army, so as to bring into full play the “four on-site forces” motto, while regularly organizing training courses and drills on calamity responses, firefighting, as well as search and rescue.
