Hundreds of police officers searching victims of landslides despite harsh weather
MPS - Hundreds of police officers and soldiers were still struggling with heavy rains and strong winds to search for victims of recent landslides in Vang Ma Chai commune, Phong Tho district, Lai Chau.
Landslides due to the heavy rains in several communes of Phong Tho district, Lai Chau claimed at least 6 lives, left 5 people missing and injured 2. The Lai Chau Provincial Police deployed hundreds of police officers, in coordination with the military forces and local people to conduct search and rescue missions, and helped local people rebuild houses and stabilize their lives.
Senior Colonel Bui Gia Luot, Vice Director of the Lai Chau Provincial Police said that the local armed forces focused on evacuating local people from dangerous areas, searching for missing people, and maintaining security and order. The communications between Dan San commune and Vang Ma Chai commune were broken off due to landslides and floods on the road. Therefore, the rescue forces had to go to Vang Ma Chai on foot while the locality is still at high risk of landslides as it is still raining heavily.
