Welcoming Ambassador James Nickel to Vietnam, Minister Luong Tam Quang expressed his pleasure at the flourishing Vietnam–Canada Comprehensive Partnership in the fields of politics and diplomacy, economic and trade cooperation, education, science and technology, security and defence, as well as people-to-people exchanges.
Regarding security and law-enforcement cooperation, Minister Luong Tam Quang noted that, over the past time, the Ministry of Public Security (MPS) of Vietnam and Canadian law-enforcement agencies, including the Public Safety Canada, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP), the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) and Global Affairs Canada, have maintained close cooperation, organized multiple delegation exchanges and carried out substantive cooperation activities in safeguarding national security and social order, combating transnational crime and sharing law-enforcement experience, particularly in aviation security.
On this occasion, Minister Luong Tam Quang proposed that Ambassador James Nickel further promote cooperation between Canadian law-enforcement agencies and the Vietnam’s MPS, contributing to protecting the national interests and security of each country.
He noted that the two sides should further enhance delegation exchanges, training and experience-sharing in cybersecurity, United Nations peacekeeping training and modernization of technical equipment for policing tasks.
The host also suggested that the two sides consider establishing a deputy-ministerial-level security and law-enforcement dialogue to be held alternately in each country, while accelerating negotiations and the signing of cooperation documents in criminal justice and crime prevention, providing a legal basis for citizen protection, extradition and transfer of sentenced persons, and mutual legal assistance in criminal matters.
Sincerely thanking Minister Luong Tam Quang for the meeting, Ambassador James Nickel affirmed that, during his tenure, he will serve as a bridge between the two sides, contributing to further strengthening the comprehensive Vietnam–Canada partnership, and expanding the bilateral cooperation in a maaner in all areas.
