Speaking at the event, Minister To Lam stated that the cooperation between Vietnam and Lithuania, over the past years, has been developing in various fields such as politics, economics and cultures. The host confirmed Vietnam supported Lithuania’s running for a seat at the United Nations (UN) Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disability in the 2018 - 2021 term, Directorship of the UN International Telecommunication Union in the 2019 - 2022 term, and a seat at the UN Human Rights Council in the 2020 - 2022 term.

Minister To Lam suggested that the two sides should negotiate an agreement to avoid double taxation; boost exchange of business delegations to promote cooperation in information technology, food processing, energy, waste treatment as well as to enhance cultural exchange, exchange of delegations at all levels, and people-to-people diplomacy.

On the basis of the political trust between the two countries, the cooperation between the Vietnamese MPS and the Ministry of the Interior of Lithuania saw various positive results, particularly in exit and entry management over the past years. Notably, the Immigration Department (under the MPS of Vietnam) and the State Border Guard Service (under the State Border Guard Service of Lithuania) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on cooperation in migration management on December 12, 2018 in Vilnius city, Lithuania. This MoU has provided a firm legal framework for the two sides to cooperate more closely and effectively in the fields of mutual concern. It has also created a driving force for the two ministries to promote cooperation in preventing and fighting crime and maintaining social order and security in each country.

Minister To Lam suggested that, in the coming time, the two sides strengthen information exchange, sharing of experience in prevention and control of crimes, particularly hi-tech crime, drug-related crime, social order crime, human trafficking as well as cooperation in building criminal database, boosting criminal science and technology, training personnel, and building capacity and improving qualifications for law-enforcement officers of the two sides.

In addition, the two sides should support each other at international forums on crime prevention and control as well as protect and facilitate activities of diplomatic agencies, entrepreneurs and citizens of each country.

Sincerely thanking Minister To Lam for the warm reception, Mr. Eimutis Misiunas affirmed that the strong cooperation between the two sides would develop further in immigration management, crime prevention and suppression contributing to ensuring security and social order of each country. He vowed, in his position, he would do his best to bring the cooperation of the two countries in general and the two ministries in particular to a new height.
